
Adult Spanish Course Levels
Basic 1
Students will:
- learn basic conversations and sentence structure
- learn how to speak in the present tense
- learn basic grammar including articles, nouns and adjectives
- build their vocabulary base
- begin constructing simple sentences
- learn how to ask questions using common interrogative words and idiomatic expressions
- learn how to write about topics that pertain to their life
- begin reading about topics pertaining to Latin American culture
Basic 2
Students will:
- learn how to speak about daily routines and life in the present tense utilizing commonly used verbs
- learn regular and irregular verbs en the past tense
- learn prepositions of time and place
- learn how to ask questions to obtain information
- learn how to answer questions in the affirmative and negative form
Intermediate 1
Students will:
- learn how to speak in different forms of the simple and imperfect past tense utilizing regular a irregular verbs
- begin practicing more complex conversations and begin focusing on their reading and writing skills
- begin practicing writing small compositions on familiar topics
- focus more on pronunciation accuracy
- begin reading short articles on Latin American cultural aspects) literature, food, artists) that will them further develop their ability to express their ideas
Intermediate 2
Students will:
- review all grammar and vocabulary that was presented in Basic 1 & 2, and Intermediate 1
- practice conversations utilizing different verb tenses learnt from the previous levels and from review
- read short stories from Latin American literature that will help broaden the student’s use of vocabulary and enable them to better grasp the use of different verb tenses
- focus on improving their writing techniques through proper usage of grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure
- learn how to speak using the subjunctive tense
Advanced Grammar in Context
Students will:
- begin the course with an in depth review of target grammar and vocabulary points
- learn to speak and write in the future tense
- have the opportunity to discuss more complex topics through class discussion and presentations
- read and comment on advanced level literary and non-literary texts
- begin reading stories and biographies of Latin-American and Spanish writers from the 19th and 20th century
- read a novel from a famous Latin-American author from the 20th century
- Students will have facilitated discussions on important and interesting topics
