The goal is to expose the children to vocabulary in a meaningful context.
Through Omar and Susan’s eyes, two Latin American children, students will learn words, phrases and idiomatic expressions.
Students will learn basic communication skills as well as language that can be used in their everyday life, welcoming the opportunity to begin communication in Spanish with peers, parents and teachers.
Through Omar and Susan’s everyday life of going to school, the park, visiting the city, and attending fiestas, etc., students will make connections between their culture and Omar and Susan’s.
Using role-play, students learn how to speak in complete sentences on the above-mentioned topics with a sufficient accuracy in pronunciation as to be understood by the native speaker of Spanish.
Art time will provide the opportunity to work in small groups, practice Spanish language and develop projects that can be used for review at a later time.
Homework is a way to reinforce the learned materials, providing opportunity for practice outside the classroom setting in different formats: reading, writing and oral practice.
Every few weeks, a review is given of the material covered, strengthening the student retention for the language acquired.
Our goal for the Middle School Spanish Prep student is to gain empowerment when speaking the Spanish language. While meeting the Colorado standards for middle school language courses, the student will gain extensive knowledge of some of the foundational verbs in Spanish… estar and ser, conocer and saber and gustar.
Students will enhance their vocabulary and listening skills and retain material learned thru worksheets, creative writing, such as poetry and short stories.
Students will learn words, phrases and idiomatic expressions associated with the lesson.
Cultural story telling helps students with pronunciation and allows them to make connections between the stories and their own culture while strengthening their language acquisition.
Interrogative vocabulary is introduced and prepares the student for conversation in and outside of the classroom.
Utilizing the verbs mentioned above, role-playing in the classroom is practiced strengthening the ability to speak in complete sentences with a sufficient accuracy in pronunciation as to be understood by the native speaker of Spanish.
